<p>ShimLaw, one of Calgary’s most diverse and fast‑growing law firms, is seeking an experienced Legal Counsel / Senior Legal Counsel with a portable practice to join our team. Our team includes experienced lawyers, paralegals, and articling students who collaborate to deliver strong client service across family law, civil litigation, criminal defence, immigration, employment law, wills and estates, real estate, and business law. <h3>Who We Are Looking For</h3>
<p>We are seeking a highly experienced lawyer with:</p>
<ul>
<li>Minimum of 2 years post‑call experience in Alberta (Legal Counsel) or 7+ years (Senior Legal Counsel).</li>
<li>A practice in one or more high‑demand areas: family law, civil litigation, employment law, criminal defence, or related fields.</li>
<li>High professional standards, strong judgment, and the ability to work collaboratively with an diverse team.</li>
<li>This is not an associate position; we are recruiting a senior practitioner comfortable operating at the Legal Counsel/Senior Legal Counsel level within their respective professional corporation.</li>

<h3>Key Responsibilities</h3>
<ul>
<li>Manage and develop your portable practice within the firm.</li>
<li>Represent both existing clients and/or new clients referred by ShimLaw.</li>
<li>Conduct court appearances, mediations, negotiations, and all aspects of file management.</li>
<li>Provide guidance to junior associates and paralegals as needed.</li>
</ul>
<h3>Requirements</h3>
<ul>
<li>Minimum 2 years of experience for Legal Counsel; 7 years for Senior Legal Counsel.</li>
<li>Demonstrated ability to generate and manage client files independently.</li>
<li>Strong written and oral advocacy skills.</li>
</ul>
