<p>Founded in 1995 by a group of experienced certification and testing experts, QAI is an independent third‑party testing, inspection and certification organization serving the building, technology and construction industries with cost‑effective solutions through in‑house capabilities and a world‑wide network of qualified affiliates. The Technical Oversight Specialist will support the Electrical Safety Department at all of our locations in the US and Canada. This role involves evaluation, testing, report writing, and performing inspections on various types of electrical products, including those used in hazardous locations.</p>
<h3>DUTIES</h3>
<ul>
<li>Perform testing and evaluation of electrical products as business dictates to nationally recognized electrical safety standards (CSA, UL, IEC, etc.).</li>
<li>Provide overall technical expertise for IT/Hi‑Tech (IEC‑62368), lighting, industrial, laboratory test and measurement (61010), medical (60601) and/or hazardous location products, training, reviewer, testing, inspection and certification.</li>
<li>Ensure sound technical decisions are made for testing, inspection and certification programs within the discipline.</li>
<li>Provide training and leadership to other technical staff within the discipline.</li>
<li>Work to grow all aspects of the Electrical Departments business.</li>
<li>Have overall responsibility for ensuring activities under the relevant scope of technical expertise are compliant with ISO 17025, ISO 17020, and/or ISO 17065 for the pertinent programs overseen.</li>
<li>Ensure Quality Management System policies, procedures, and work instructions are followed.</li>
<li>Recommend competency matrix level changes for supervised staff.</li>
<li>Recommend new business opportunities or business direction.</li>
<li>Make recommendations on test equipment.</li>
<li>Assist with scope expansions, technical audits, and resolution of CARs.</li>
<li>Provide technical knowledge within the relevant background and department for which this position oversees or is assigned to.</li>
<li>Take the lead in qualifying new complicated test set‑ups or equipment.</li>
<li>Assist in program set up for developing policies, procedures and forms.</li>
<li>Review test reports, inspection reports, evaluation reports as necessary to ensure activities meet the requirements of the relevant accreditation criteria.</li>
<li>Interact effectively and professionally with customers and staff, as required.</li>
<li>Maintain a high level of technical competency in the relevant discipline.</li>
<li>Travel throughout Canada and the USA as business dictates.</li>
<li>Be part of an energetic team with a can‑do attitude.</li>
<li>Other duties as may be assigned by their manager from time to time.</li>
</ul>
<h3>QUALIFICATIONS</h3>
<ul>
<li>Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, or equivalent.</li>
<li>5 years directly related experience.</li>
<li>Possess superior MS Word and Excel skills, be proficient with Email and Adobe Acrobat.</li>
<li>Possess “Good Laboratory Practice” skills essential for testing products.</li>
<li>Possess good interpersonal and communication skills.</li>
</ul>
<h3>KEY TECHNICAL COMPETENCE</h3>
<ul>
<li>Knowledge of accreditation standards and requirements.</li>
<li>Able to provide technical guidance on requirements in testing, inspection, and/or certification in their relevant field of expertise.</li>
<li>Able to identify business opportunities for the organization with sound judgment in making recommendations.</li>
<li>Able to make sound judgments on test methods and/or standards within their field of expertise.</li>
<li>Able to identify opportunities for improvement and take appropriate action when deemed necessary to ensure QAI meets technical requirements.</li>
</ul>
<h3>ADDITIONAL INFORMATION</h3>
<ul>
<li>Candidates must hold a valid passport, or be able to obtain a valid passport, and must be able to travel to the US and international destinations.</li>
<li>The successful candidate will progress, subject to satisfactory performance, through a 3‑month probation and training period.</li>
