About the organization

The Canadian Museum for Human Rights (CMHR) is a national museum dedicated to the evolution, celebration and future of human rights. It is the first national museum in Canada to be built outside the National Capital Region. Located in Winnipeg, CMHR rises from the Prairie earth at The Forks, a historic meeting place for over six thousand years. CMHR delivers an immersive, inclusive museum experience designed for visitors of all backgrounds, ages and abilities.

Role purpose

The Senior Financial Analyst will support CMHR to maintain an inclusive, equitable and innovative workplace. The role reports to the Vice-president, Internal Services and Chief Financial Officer and is responsible for developing, monitoring, managing and reporting the Museum’s capital and operating budgets. This includes data entry and analysis in the financial system, creating reports, and providing leadership with financial insights for decision making. The incumbent will handle internal reporting (monthly reports with dashboards for the leadership team) and external reporting for the corporate planning and annual report cycle.

What you will do

  • Contribute to a culture that promotes respect, equity, inclusion and innovation, and models anti-racist and accountable behaviours.
  • Manage the complete operational and capital budgeting cycle, including calendars for procurement and lifecycle items for CMHR and the corporate plan processes and financial statements.
  • Prepare internal financial reporting to the leadership team and CMHR budget owners, including monthly/quarterly reporting and revenue forecasting.
  • Perform financial analysis and strategic planning for CMHR, including revenue-generating activities; provide guidance to Friends of CMHR when necessary.
  • Address government and external financial reporting requirements in line with parliamentary and Treasury Board of Canada standards.
  • Analyze and interpret financial data to produce budgets and forecasts for business decisions.
  • Prepare internal leadership reports comparing actuals to budget and reforecast as needed.
  • Oversee budgeting and forecasting processes for capital projects and annual operations, guiding targets and action plans.
  • Collaborate with People and Culture on staffing and salary projections; analyze scenarios during collective bargaining.
  • Support management with accounting assistance, revenue and cost analysis, and variance analysis with action-oriented plans.
  • Contribute to special projects with costing, market and client analysis and other revenue-growth initiatives.
  • Serve as a financial analytics resource to management; maintain controls in the financial system and develop procedures aligned with best practices.
  • Monitor economic and industry developments relevant to CMHR’s operations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What we’re looking for

  • Certified Professional Accounting designation preferred, or a combination of accounting education and related experience considered.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ budgeting experience with complex financial modeling and analysis; proficient in budgeting/forecasting techniques and financial statement analysis.
  • Commitment to human rights principles, including respect, equity, inclusion and dignity for all.
  • Experience supporting budgeting, reporting and analysis to inform business strategy and operations.
  • Experience as a financial business partner in a customer-oriented environment across multiple business areas, including marketing and pricing.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems, database management and spreadsheet applications.
  • Assertive, decisive and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong analytical skills; produces accurate and well-organized documents and reports.
  • Detail-oriented with integrity and accountability; strong organization and time management.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; strong customer service aptitude.

Desired qualifications

  • Ability to communicate proficiently in both official languages (oral and written) is an asset.

Other

  • Work is in an office environment; may require long periods at a desk and time in front of a computer.
  • May require irregular hours during the annual budgeting process.
