About Vega Academy
Vega Academy is a newly established, Ministry-approved private high school in Toronto and the first in Ontario to be directly linked to an integrated university model through its partnership with International Business University (IBU). We prepare students for the future by building a strong foundation in STEAM and business, delivered through a real-world, hands-on, interdisciplinary approach to learning. Vega Academy will launch the first Grade 12 cohort in February 2026. An exciting leadership opportunity for a seasoned principal interested in leading this unique school through its final planning stages and implementation phases.
The Opportunity
We’re looking for a proven academic leader who is student-centred, passionate about teaching and learning and able to model and support next-generation curriculum development and implementation. As our inaugural Principal, you will work with the existing provincial curriculum to design and implement a future-focused curriculum that integrates STEAM and business within a project-based experiential learning framework. The principal will have oversight for the faculty, teach one course (preferably in a STEAM subject), and work closely with the leadership team to ensure Vega’s academic programs, policies, and procedures reflect our values and vision.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Administration
- Build and sustain a positive, collaborative and innovative school culture that promotes high levels of student engagement in all aspects of high school life; has a relentless focus on academic excellence, student success and well-being.
- Oversee daily school operations, ensuring compliance with Ontario Ministry of Education guidelines and Vega Academy policies.
- Lead preparations for Ministry inspections and maintain our high academic and operational standards.
- Serve as the primary liaison between Vega Academy, International Business University and the wider community, fostering partnerships and visibility.
Academic Excellence
- Lead the development and integration of future-focused STEAM and business curriculum with experiential and project-based learning.
- Mentor, support, and evaluate teaching staff to ensure engaging and innovative assessment and instruction that aligns with the Ministry expectations.
- Teach one STEAM course during the semester, modelling high-quality, engaging teaching practices.
Strategic Growth
- Help shape the school’s academic identity and reputation in STEAM and business education
- Support domestic and international student recruitment and admissions activities in collaboration with our leadership team.
- Build strong relationships with students, parents, faculty, and external partners
The successful candidate will have the following essential qualifications:
- Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT) in good standing (required).
- Minimum of ten years of combined leadership and teaching experience.
- Experience working in an international and/or private high school or other related fields is an asset.
- Proven background in **STEAM and Business education** (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics).
- Strong understanding of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) curriculum, and evidence-based and emerging best pedagogical design and assessment practices in 21st-century learning.
- Excellent communication, conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to inspire, mentor, and motivate educators and students alike.
- Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
