Your Impact:

The NSF IT Communications team is seeking a Communications Specialist for a position as an IT Communications Analyst. This role encompasses and incorporates communications, change management and project management.

Responsibilities include:
  • Serve as lead communications point of contact for a designated portfolio covering multiple IT Communications projects within the Division of Information Systems (DIS)
  • Provide strategic insight and creativity when creating and executing communications plans for IT system changes
  • Manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders, which may include but are not limited to targeted Directorate staff, NSF’s policy office, customer support staff, NSF IT customers, NSF grantees; maintain positive relationships with all Federal PMs and other internal stakeholders involved in daily project activities
  • Execute and/or oversee creation of communications materials in a timely manner, including working closely with and obtaining approval from DIS Senior Managers
  • Draft communications and outreach materials for projects within DIS including communications plans, emails, web content, posters/fliers, system announcements, newsletter articles, presentations, job aids (guides and tip sheets), system help documentation and emergency communications
  • Assist with strategic planning and workstream delivery for the communications program
  • Facilitate meetings, client buy-in, product delivery and reporting as needed with limited oversight and at times on a tight schedule
  • Report on all activities to IT Communications Team Manager


Here’s What You’ll Need:


  • 6+ years of relevant experience and a Bachelors degree is required; commensurate experience for education
  • Experience with strategic communications and outreach (minimum 6+ years of experience)
  • Demonstrate strong writing, editing, presentation, creative and promotional skills (focus on IT communications a plus)
  • Demonstrate strong understanding of IT systems change processes with the ability to translate technical language into customer-focused communications
  • Demonstrate strong leadership and initiative management skills
  • Possess exceptional client and stakeholder relationship skills
  • Be highly organized; demonstrate excellent time management skills; proven ability to juggle multiple tasks at once and operate in a fast-paced environment
  • Be motivated, flexible and a team player

Physical Requirements:
Most work will be done at a desk or computer.

Work Environment:
General Office environment. The work environment is fast-paced and sometimes involves extreme deadline pressures. The nature of the work requires a high degree of teamwork and cooperation with other members of the staff as well as individuals across the Company and Customers.

Equipment & Machines:
General office equipment including PC/laptop, Fax, Copiers, Shredder, Printers, Telephone, and other miscellaneous office equipment.

Attendance is critical at all times. Must be able to work a 40-hour workweek, normally Monday through Friday. However, times and days may vary depending on business requirements. Needs to be available to work overtime during critical peaks and be available to meet last minute requests for overtime should the situation occur.

Other Essential Functions:
Must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others. Must put forward a professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation.
Must be able to interface with individuals at all levels of the organization both verbally and in writing. Must be well-organized with the ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously. Must work well under pressure to meet deadline requirements. Must be willing to travel as needed. Must take and pass a drug test and background check as well as a motor vehicle records check. Must be a US citizen.
