NT Is seeking an experienced IT Change & Release Management Leader, reporting to the Practice Lead for IT Service Management (ITSM), to transform processes and lead the global technology change management operations across the enterprise. This will include responsibility for ITIL Change Management process, Release Management process, and Patching process globally in our global infrastructure/Chief Technology Officer organization. This role is both a ‘run-the-bank’ and ‘change-the-bank’ position.

Who you are:

You have deep experience and expertise in leading enterprise-wide IT change and release management in a complex mission-critical processing global environment. You are accustomed to frequent interaction with senior stakeholders who are pursuing agendas and commitments that need to be reconciled to balance risks e.g. stability vs. time-to-market decisions. You will have a background in diverse platforms and technology, in both on-premises and cloud computing applications and infrastructure. You have a proven track record of developing strategies to meet complex program requirements with a ‘now’, ‘next’, ‘later’ mindset to incremental improvement to manage risk. You have an understanding of IT Service Management / ITIL best practices. You possess in-depth understanding of corporate governance structures and general management best practices. You have an entrepreneurial mindset with outstanding organizational and leadership skills; analytical abilities and problem-solving skills. You possess excellent communication skills and are demonstrably capable of saying “no” when needed. You deal positively with conflicting views. You have experience managing complex teams in a global operating model, as well as influencing results without direct leadership responsibility. You have passion and ability to mentor team members, developing their skills, competencies, and orientation towards new ways of working, while ensuring delivery of projects. You have demonstrated the ability to lead and operate across a global footprint.

This role will be responsible for a number of key functions that both support and drive improvements to the resiliency of Northern Trust’s IT Resiliency. What you will do, leading a team of experienced individuals:

You will assume leadership and decision rights for the Change Management function globally, including product/process management and well as change command center operations, execution of controls and addressing documented issues with documented plans. Personally engaged to ensure changes are reviewed and signed off prior to deployment, particularly for high-risk events. Lead event ‘de-confliction’ with objectivity across diverse and often conflicting agendas. Lead projects to transform and strengthen the function, with tight linkage to addressing change failure root cause and other learnings from incidents. Drive groups to deliver ‘get-well’ plans, and challenge quality of those plans, to stabilize approach when required. This change function oversees a very high volume of change monthly; you will oversee the change calendar including governance to manage through barriers and dependencies.

You will assume responsibility for driving increase in Change Automation , working collaboratively with IT teams to adopt modern deployment practices and leverage automation to reduce change execution risk.

You will establish a new Release Management function globally, providing release and project management leadership for major application changes and infrastructure projects.  Implement processes and leverage tools to standardize release delivery process so that releases follow consistent standards and ensure repeatability with high level of quality.

You will establish a global Patch Management function, coordinating all patching activity across technology towers and managed service providers – setting strategy for go-forward target operating model as well as driving tactical operations.

You possess:

  • 10+ years of experience in IT Service Management related field within Banking/Financial institutions
  • A related professional accreditation/robust knowledge of such as ITIL,ISO/IEC20000,COBIT ITSM management frameworks
  • Subject matter expertise on Change Management processes and best practice
  • Good understanding of modern infrastructure technologies, including servers, networks, firewalls, middleware, databases, security, development tools and cloud-based solutions
  • Background of developing, documenting, and implementing ITSM process and procedures
  • Prefer candidates to have deep experience in planning and implementing complex changes for projects or programs you have owned
  • You can efficiently navigate the risk and investment governance model and have credible authoritative banking experience in Business and Functions
  • Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, across various levels in the organization including senior leadership teams, in influencing key decisions taken in the Business and Functions
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to prioritize, make decisions, and work to tight timeframes
  • Proven ability to lead highly complex, global activities through influence and credibility rather than full direct command and control
  • Ability to both assess strategic priorities and to focus on detailed aspects of a function to drive effective delivery
