IITB is a national organization, with a wide variety of work that can be performed regardless of geographic location. However, certain positions may require a physical presence at a specific location.

EVALUATION: Online Application / Screening questions

Hiring managers will review your application to determine if you meet the essential education. However, some managers may opt to use asset education and/or experiences as well. This is why it is essential to provide concrete examples when answering the screening section in your application.

When writing a concrete example, think of the principle to help you structure it appropriately (Explain the Situation, what Tasks had to be done, what concrete Actions did the candidate accomplish, what were the Results).

You will have to provide the name of two references (at least one manager/ supervisor) that can validate the information provided.

A pool of partially qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions at Employment and Social Development Canada with various tenures, various linguistic requirements, various security requirements, various conditions of employment and for various locations.

If a pool is established following this selection process, all federal organizations listed in Schedules I, IV and V of the Financial Administration Act (FAA) will be able to use it in order to staff similar positions across Canada.     Assessment

    Each board and/or hiring managers will have specific criteria to assess and each pull from the inventory may be treated separately, therefore if you are referred for more than one opportunity you may be re-assessed on the same criteria.

    A variety of assessment tools may be used in the assessment of candidates, such as: written test, practical test, situational exercise, oral interview, simulation, presentation, role play, work samples, performance appraisals, reference checks, and/or assessment board member personal/direct knowledge of candidates qualifications. Some assessment tools may be administered electronically, others, in-person.

    Please note that asset qualifications, obtained results, top-down and/or random selection may be used to identify which applications will be given further consideration.

    Candidates must meet the essential qualifications to be appointed to a position. The essential qualifications that are listed in the statement of merit criteria are mandatory. Applicants may be appointed to the position even though he/she does not meet any or all of the asset qualifications. However, meeting these criteria is desirable and may be a deciding factor in choosing the person to be appointed.

    Pass marks will be established for each qualification. However, achieving the pass mark is not a guarantee of an appointment or that candidates will be put through the next stages of the assessment process. A cut-off score or a top-down approach may be used at any step if there is a sufficient number of candidates to meet immediate and anticipated staffing needs.

    All information obtained throughout the selection process, from the time of application to close of process, may be used to evaluate the candidates.

    Foreign certificates and/or diplomas must be assessed against Canadian education standards. The federal public service will accept any Foreign Educational Credentials as long as they are deemed comparable to Canadian standards, determined by a recognized credential assessment service.

    The Canadian Information Centre for International Credentials (CICIC) assists persons who wish to obtain an assessment of their educational, professional, and occupational credentials by referring them to the appropriate organizations.
