<p>Job Description Job DescriptionJob Title: EstimatorLocation: Prince George, British Columbia (Some travel may be required) Position Overview: We are seeking a detail-oriented Estimator to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates, coordinating bid processes, and supporting project execution for civil and heavy civil construction projects. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on infrastructure, natural resource, and public sector projects in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities: Analyze contract documents, specifications, and addenda to determine project requirements, bonding, insurance, and potential risk factors. Conduct full quantity take-offs for labor, equipment, and materials to ensure accurate project pricing. Develop critical path schedules, milestone progress dates, and completion timelines to meet contract deadlines. Solicit and evaluate pricing from subcontractors and suppliers to ensure competitive project costs. Prepare comprehensive project cost estimates using Bid2Win software or Excel templates, including labor, equipment, materials, overhead, and profit. Produce and submit final tender documents for client approval in line with submission deadlines. Liaise with external consultants, subcontractors, and project management teams to estimate budgets and coordinate tender development. Review project scope, schedule, budget, and execution plans, identifying potential risks throughout the project lifecycle. Education & Experience: Minimum 2 years of construction experience in estimating or project management. College diploma or university degree in engineering or construction management is preferred but not mandatory. Previous experience with a general civil or heavy civil contractor, particularly in natural resources (forestry, mining, oil & gas) or public infrastructure projects, is an advantage. Skills & Qualifications: Strong critical thinking and analytical skills. Previous civil estimating experience, including bridges (new construction & rehabilitation), demolition, pile driving, roads, earthworks, drainage, and concrete structures is preferred. Solid understanding of construction methods, specifications, and procedures. Familiarity with bid preparation, quantity take-off procedures, subcontractor procurement, pricing, and bid closing processes. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, Project) and estimating software (Bid2Win preferred); knowledge of AutoCAD, On-Screen Takeoff, or Bluebeam is a plus. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to coordinate with owners, managers, designers, and supervisors. Ability to multitask, prioritize bids, and work independently in a fast-paced environment. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
