This is a hands-on, short-term engagement for someone who can quickly understand complex systems, identify performance and reliability issues, and provide clear, actionable recommendations for improvement.</p><ul><li>Perform a comprehensive health check and assessment of the current PostgreSQL database environment</li><li>Review performance, scalability, security, and operational practices</li><li>Identify bottlenecks, configuration issues, and opportunities for improvement</li><li>Develop recommendations and a high-level design for a future-state database architecture aligned with business and technical goals</li><li>Advise on best practices for data management, backup and recovery, monitoring, and automation</li><li>Collaborate with internal stakeholders and technical teams to ensure recommendations are practical and well-understood</li><li>Optionally assist in early implementation or knowledge transfer to internal staff</li></ul><p><br></p><p><strong>What you bring to the job</strong></p><p>You are someone with several years of hands-on experience in database administration, design, and optimization, with a strong focus on PostgreSQL. You are comfortable working independently in a consulting-style capacity and come with the following:</p><ul><li>Solid understanding of database performance tuning, indexing strategies, query optimization, and storage management</li><li>Experience with high availability, replication, and backup/recovery strategies in Postgres</li><li>Familiarity with cloud-hosted database environments (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure Database for PostgreSQL, or similar) is a plus</li><li>Strong analytical and communication skills - able to translate technical findings into clear business recommendations</li><li>Familiarity with data security standards and compliance requirements</li><li>Broader knowledge of database technologies (MySQL, Oracle, etc.) for comparative insight</li></ul><p><br></p><p>Qualified job seekers are asked to apply with attention to Shannan Willoughby.
