Job Description:
Our client is a privately held family office overseeing a diverse portfolio of businesses, investments, and real estate developments. With a focus on long-term growth, operational excellence, and wealth preservation, the organization manages a range of assets including construction, real estate, and private company operations.As part of their ongoing growth, they are seeking an experienced Controller to lead financial operations across multiple entities. This newly created role will serve as a key strategic partner to ownership—managing accounting processes, overseeing reporting and controls, and providing insights that support investment and business decisions.This opportunity is ideal for a CPA or senior accounting professional with experience in family office, real estate, or construction environments who enjoys a hands-on, multi-entity role that combines both tactical accounting and strategic financial leadership.
This is an onsite role daily.
Reporting to: Family Principals
The Controller will manage all aspects of financial reporting and analysis for the group of companies, ensuring compliance, efficiency, and accuracy across various operating and investment entities.
Key Responsibilities:
Family Office & Multi-Entity Accounting
Oversee full-cycle accounting for holding companies, operating businesses, and investment partnerships
Manage intercompany transactions, consolidations, and equity allocations across multiple entities
Ensure timely month-end and year-end closes, including preparation of financial statements under ASPE or IFRS Construction Management Finance
Handle accounting and financial oversight for residential and commercial development projects
Review WIP schedules, progress billings, and ensure accurate revenue and cost recognition
Monitor project budgets, cash flow, and financing requirements to support timely project completion
Manage lender draw requests, cost-to-complete analyses, and compliance with loan agreements Cash Flow & Treasury
Monitor and forecast cash flow across all entities, including distributions, investments, and capital calls
Manage banking relationships and optimize liquidity strategies Reporting & Analysis
Prepare consolidated financial and management reports for ownership
Support tax planning and compliance in coordination with external advisors
Oversee HST/GST filings and ensure accurate ITC recovery Strategic Planning & Advisory
Support evaluation of new investments, acquisitions, and capital projects through financial modeling and ROI analysis
Provide insights on cost optimization, risk management, and long-term financial planning Team Leadership & Controls
Supervise and mentor accounting staff; establish scalable systems and internal controls
Implement best practices for financial governance and reporting standards TMGMS
Job Requirements: CPA designation preferred (or equivalent experience)
5+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience
Experience in family office, real estate, or construction industries
Strong working knowledge of ASPE and IFRS; tax planning experience an asset
Advanced proficiency in Excel; ERP experience (Net Suite, Odoo, or similar) preferred
Excellent communication skills with the ability to work discreetly with high-net-worth stakeholders
Proven analytical, problem-solving, and leadership skills in a fast-paced, evolving environment
Experience with construction financing and lender relations is strongly preferred Apply
